As you already know, HTC unveiled two Facebook phones at the Mobile
World Congress 2011, the Salsa and ChaCha models, but now behold that
through the power of customization, one of these handsets will lose its
identity. As a result, we find out that in China, HTC will sell the
Salsa model with another button and not the original Facebook one.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has chosen to incorporate a button that
represents another social service, this time a Chinese one, by the name
of Sina Weibo. In is an interesting choice especially since Sina Weibo
isn’t exactly a true social service like Facebook. It is rather a tool
for microblogging and at the same time, a hybrid made up of two
components: Twitter and Facebook. In addition to the removal of the
Facebook feature and the change of connectivity types of, the HTC Salsa
keeps its known and established specifications. Here we include the
processor clocked at 800 MHz and the 3.4-inch display.
It remains to be seen whether the Chacha model (which we did a review
on) will undergo the same treatment as its cousin. Meanwhile, we cannot
help wondering how long time will pass until such customization will be
applied on other models too. Let’s think about some possible
combinations, shall we? For example, we may see a phone boasting a
Google + button and a Windows Phone model with a Socl button (the future
of social service of Microsoft).
As for the release date of the new Salsa phone lacking the Facebook
integration, nothing is officially confirmed but we expect a release to
occur relatively soon. All in all, if the Sina Weibo is a big thing in
China, it seems logical for the Salsa to boast such a button. As usual,
be sure to stay tuned for the latest news and updates!
