Remember that time that we told you about Apple’s next-gen iPhone and iPad? We even mentioned that the slate will be called as the iPad 3 while the phone will most likely go by the moniker of iPhone 5. Guess the leaks were slowly turning to be true and we’re here to tell a clue.
According to reports, it seems that Apple is currently working on two iPad 3 prototypes. Codenamed as J1 and J2, these prototypes can be distinguished from the iPad 2 in terms of specs, technologies and size. We have also heard that Apple demands that its new slate will be made thinner while its maximum screen resolution will be raised to 2048 x 1536. To meet this demand, the prototypes were sent to upstream partners for further testing and development.

Moreover, it was also told that the J2 iPad 3 will somewhat be considered as the upgraded version of the J1. It was also leaked that the slates will now be equipped with Retina Display alongside with two LED light bars that will be placed on the left and the right sides of the said prototypes. In addition, the J2 was recently found inside the iOS 5 Code which means that it is currently being tested against an iOS 5 software release. Still, there is no concrete information that can signify that the company has officially picked the best out of the two iPad 3 Prototypes. The final decision will most likely be based on needs.
On the other hand, reports were also stating that there’s a great possibility that the iPad 3 will be released as an upgraded version of the iPad 2. The new slate will somewhat be equipped with similar specs and features. It can be recalled that Apple did opt for an iPhone 4S instead of releasing a full version of the iPhone 5.
