One of Toshiba’s devices we have seen at CES this year was its 14-inch laptop marketed as Ultrabook. By then there was no name available as it was simply being referred to as Toshiba’s 14-incher. But just recently, the company has put a name to the powerful device; it is now known as Toshiba Satellite U845 which comes with a price tag starting at $699. Clearly, this ultrabook will be competing in the lower-end market considering its price. Toshiba actually released the first of the series known as Satellite U840 in the first quarter of this year, although we haven’t reported it. So, for Toshiba fans this model does not come as a surprise, rather an obligatory release for the company to be able to keep its brand in the loop. Also, it won’t be competing with devices operating on Windows 8.
Although Toshiba Satellite U845 will not be competing in the high-end market, it has a lot of things to offer to anyone who wishes to have an ultrabook with a considerably bigger screen. That being said, let’s try to go into the information we got about some of the specs of this laptop and let us start with the processor. According to our sources, Toshiba will be going for Core i5 processor but will sport the dual-core model with higher clockspeed. We know for a fact that the new models of i5 system on chips (SOC) are now featuring 4 cores. While we want to see one of those models play with other hardware inside Toshiba Satellite U845. But with its price, it is almost a wishful thinking to see quad-core i5 SOC in it, although everything could change.
Toshiba boasts of Satellite U845 being an ultraportable laptop. And when you try to look closer, you will learn the company is true to its word; Satellite U845 actually measures 0.82 inches thick and just 2.46 pounds in weight. While it is neither the thinnest nor the lightest, it is still as thin as you would feel comfortable with and as light as you might think you are simply bringing a book in your hands. With 14 inches display and quite comfortable chiclet keyboard to type on, its thickness and weight are simply proportional.
Speaking of its display, Toshiba does not have something to surprise us when it comes to the quality of picture its new ultrabook could offer. Toshiba Satellite U845 sports bare the liquid crystal display technology which has already been overkilled by many manufacturers. It seems like Toshiba does not want to jump into the IPS LCD and AMOLED technology bandwagons. While it’s always good to be unique and different, when it comes to display people could become easily appreciative if the company behind the creation of Satellite U845 borrowed a new display technology from other manufacturers. Anyway, this ultrabook features 1792 x 768 pixels resolution making use of 21:9 aspect ratio.
There is no information as to the amount of random access memory (RAM) U845 would sport but we are certain it would be using DDR3 type. Other sources also claimed that it can hold up to 10GB of RAM. With that, we can speculate that Toshiba might be giving this ultrabook at least, 2 GB or RAM and offers some kind of upgrade promotions to buyers. We are also certain that Toshiba Satellite U845 will be coming in with 500 GB hard disk drive (HDD) and 32 GB solid state drive (SSD). With a price tag of $699, do you think it is worth it? Stay tuned as we will bring you the latest updates regarding this ultrabook.
