Not only the weapons of the U.S. military are feared, but also their
high-tech communications are worth consideration. As a result, we find
out that a lot of money is invested in the gadgets of the U.S. soldiers
as well as in normal smartphones that are transformed for military use.
These include Android, Windows Phone models and iPhones.
The US Army conducted a test period comprised of six weeks, using
more than 300 Android, Windows Phone and iPhone terminals for military
purposes. The results were positive, according to Michael McCarthy,
director of the program, saying that the young soldiers, accustomed to
such gadgets are using them and they feel great on the battlefield or on
the training ground. So how does the US Army use these smartphones?
I guess that they’re not for updating their Facebook or Twitter
status on a regular basis. Joking aside, among the many uses of
smartphones, we have GPS location, sending photos of the surrounding
area or just the simple direct reports on the phone. There are also
problems for these devices, for example, OS bugs or missing AT & T
signal for iPhones in some parts of Texas and New Mexico. As you can
see, not even the US Army can escape software or hardware bugs. The
phones cannot be used on overseas operations as well due to their lack
of security.
At this time, military experts are working on new ways to encrypt
transmissions on these handsets and are hoping for a limited deployment
until the end of the year. Two mobile operating systems for official use
are expected to be selected. As you can probably guess, both the
Android and the iPhone have enjoyed great success and have been well
received. A generation of fan-boys with guns is unintentionally born,
isn’t it?
