Hanover hosted the 57^th edition of the iF awards, one of the most prestigious design competitions worldwide. Founded in 1954, the competition has become synonymous with complex industrial design and includes different categories such as Product Design, Communication Design, Material Design and Packing Design. The IF 2011 edition was held at the Hannover Exhibition Center and the judges evaluated over 2700 submissions by the 1121 participants from over 43 countries. At the end of the competition, 993 winners were chosen and they were granted the right to display the competition’s logo on the products they wished to sell, and the top 50 winners were awarded with an iF Gold Award, along with a sculpture made by the German designer, Herbert Schultes.
Whether we are talking about a container pool, an USB clip or furniture, the products in the competition showed how effective the design can be in the transforming of products into works of art. Among the most popular products from iF was the LG Pico (S100) smartphone, the creation of the Hong Sik Kim designer. Together with a team from the LG company, Kim made ​​a small terminal with an attractive design. The creators of this model took into account the return to the basic concept of a mobile phone, so they developed a simple device with a simple keypad that offers only basic features and a speaker phone at hand.
The judges described the phone as “very small, built with special attention regarding the interface between the display, keyboard and speaker. PICO LG has managed to develop its own identity”. Many interesting and exciting products were awarded at the iF awards. Among the popular and award-winning products, the iPhone and Emporia Elegance were also included. They won praise and awards in the design section of mobile phones at iF.
