Recently, Comex and I0n1c made sure to notify everyone that Apple will shortly launch IOS 4.3.4
in order to block the jailbreak solution of jailbreakme.com. Whether
this is true or not we will find out in the coming days, but regardless
of the final outcome, I think you should know how to protect your
terminal so you do not wake up to the fact that you can cannot jailbreak
your iDevice after so many months of waiting. So what does IOS 4.3.4
means?
Based on the terminal that you own, I’ll explain below what an update
to IOS 4.3.4 involves. No matter what terminal you have, I recommend
two things. Firstly, save SHSH for IOS 4.3.3 using TinyUmbrella and
secondly, uncheck the option Request SHSH from Cydia. The option is
found in the Settings menu.
The owners of the Iphone 3GS / 4, iPad 1 and iPod Touch 3G/4G should be aware of the fact that these terminals are exploitable with limera1n and IOS 4.3.4 will force users to perform tethered jailbreak if an untethered exploit will not exist. The worst “scenario” regarding the jailbreak is if a tethered jailbreak is mandatory and is the only solution since limera1n is tethered and limera1n can be used to jailbreak any version of the IOS installed for these devices.
Regarding the unlock solution, chances are that Apple will decide to block the possibility to unlock using Gevey 3G cards considering that the IOS 5 beta 2 has already done the same thing. You should be happy to find out that if you perform an update keeping the baseband then you will not have any problems. The 3GS doesn’t have unlock problems and the only decoding method is using iPad’s baseband while the iPad 1G tablets are decoded from the factory so they do not need to be unlocked.
For the owners of the iPad 2 3G, things get a little more complicated and a future article will address these issues too.
