It almost came as a shock to me to read about a brand new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) tablet offered at $65 only. The device in question is HuaYi Android tablet that sports a 7-inch screen and runs on the latest Android OS version. While we’ve been hearing rumors of major manufacturers releasing entry-level Android devices that operate on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, this new device from HuaYi seems to defy the pre-existing tradition as far as budget-friendly device is concerned. The fact that it’s going to run on ICS is enough to catch the attention of tech enthusiasts who are on the lookout of new additions to the impressive Android lineups.
As an enthusiast myself, I was intrigued upon learning that a new ICS tablet is about to hit the market that comes with very low price tag. But then it will leave anyone thinking what the specs could be for such a very affordable price. It would be just right to cite the specs of this tablet here.
Everyone has his own standards when it comes judging a device however, the most common tendency is to compare the specs with the price to know if it’s worth it. I believe, that would be the most effective criteria to determine whether a budget-friendly device has decent specs or not. So, let’s tackle a bit the specs of HuaYi and see if $65 would be wasted if we buy one.
Processor. This 7-inch tablet comes with a single-core CPU based on ARM Cortex-A8 architecture and clocked at 1GHz frequency. It does sound like there’s nothing more to it but then if you have to look closer into this processor, you would know it is more than enough to run a device as small as a 7-incher tablet. Of course, no one could take away anyone’s wish that this tablet should have been given a more powerful processor.
RAM. It may seem like the manufacturer doesn’t really want to give this device some higher specs but then again, 512MB is just fair enough for a 1GHz CPU. There’s one thing you should know, devices that are given low hardware specs often don’t require much power to run and that’s the case here. Even though it operates on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the specs can handle any operation the OS throws at it.
Miscellaneous Features. HuaYi Android tablet comes with a microSD slot that supports up to 32GB of removable storage. It also has a micro USB port which it uses to charge and transfer data to and fro, and an HDMI port for large screen connectivity. Of course, it runs on ICS and that is one of the things you can always be proud of from this device. It may be cheap but it’s updated.
There is no word as to when this tablet would hit the market and which country it would target to debut first. But as far as cheap tablets are concerned, there is a greater possibility it would hit the Indian market in the following weeks.
