Gigabyte GSmart M1420, M1320, G1362 & G1342 Phones Announced

Tech devices manufacturer Gigabyte is struggling hard to be able to capture a bigger chunk of the market and it is apparent after the company announced recently its new lineup of smart phones consisting of Gigabyte M Series (M1420 and M1320), and Gigabyte G Series (G1362 and G1342). The Computex 2012 event held in Taipei, Taiwan was the perfect moment for Gigabyte to shine. It was during the event that people were made aware that there are several devices with better specs coming this year. In other words, such big international even was a success for the manufacturer. And while we have the tendency to choose major manufacturers we know, no one could actually miss the goodness of Gigabyte’s devices. Now, let’s try to look into the cores of these devices.
Gigabyte GSmart M1420
This is one of Gigabyte’s masterpieces but it’s not as powerful as we expect with its MediaTek MT6575 processor clocked at 1 GHz. It was announced to be a dual-SIM smart phone and would be running on Android’s latest version, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It sports a 4.3-incher display panel featuring 480 x 800 pixels resolution and an 8-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and auto-focus feature. A rear-facing camera for video chatting and conferencing has 1.3 megapixels. Just like other smart phones, it is capable of connecting to a Wi-Fi network (b/g/n) or Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0. Among other features that this smart phone offers are the lighting sensor, accelerometer, and proximity sensor. No word on the price and availability yet.

Basing on its model, we can immediately tell that this is going to be a smaller version of M1420. Evidently so, it only has a 3.5-incher display capable of displaying pictures in 480 x 800 pixels resolution. Its 1GHz processor is paired with 512MB RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. It is also a dual-SIM device running on Android 4.0 ICS with the same connectivity features as with its big brother. It only has one rear-facing camera with 3 megapixels and also support the features M1420 was packed with.

This 4.3-incher, dual-SIM handset was given a processor from Qualcomm clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 512MB RAM. While it only has 4GB internal memory, it is adorned with microSD slot that support up to 32GB card for people who want to upgrade. Just like the first two handsets mentioned here, it will run on Android 4.0 ICS and is capable of connecting to GSM/EDGE/WCDMA/HSUPA networks. While we were actually hoping prior to the announcement that this could come with pretty impressive specs, it didn’t. In fact, its 5-megapixel primary camera was a sign of mediocrity. Nonetheless, this is one of Gigabyte’s devices that could be able to pose a good competition in the market and may even attract more buyers.

Now, it is easier to know that this model is actually a little brother to G1362 as to model number would tell us. If you’ve notice, Gigabyte is giving us 4.3-3.5 tandem of its devices with bigger models sporting 4.3 inches display and smaller ones with 3.5 inches. If M1320 was able to maintain the resolution of M1420, G1342 couldn’t. The truth is, it has gotten just 320 x 480 pixels resolution. It also gets 800 MHz processor putting it under the lower-end of the market and compete with budget-friendly smartphones already released. It still gets 512MB of RAM and 1GB or internal memory which are not really that bad for a budget-friendly smart phone like it. However, there is no information as to the price of this device, but based on its specs, it is safer to assume it would be marketed with lower price.
