AMD Reveals First Windows 8 Concept Tablet Featuring Trinity Chipset

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. or simply known as AMD revealed just recently its concept of the first Windows 8 tablet it is going to release in the following months. At least, it is clearer to us now that AMD is also jumping on to the Windows 8 bandwagon to feature its very own chips. Although the American multi-national chip maker has not revealed the name of its first Windows 8 tablet, we are certain that it will feature its Trinity chips. It will be using Microsoft’s newest operating system to test the performance of its slate in the market. Being the ultimate competitor to Intel, AMD has a lot to prove to the people and the fact that it lacks popularity in the mobile market, it surely needs the help of an already popular product to jumpstart its notoriety.

Trinity A6 APU. I want to reiterate that this is going to be AMD’s best moment to showcase its Trinity accelerated processing units (APU). While it didn’t provide the specs of its concept Windows 8 tablet made by Compal, its representatives said that the device will most likely to sport its newly-released Trinity A6 APU. Currently, there is only one model available for  A6 family–the A6-5400K which comes bundled with HD 7540D graphics processor. Intel has always captured the market for processors but AMD also claims dominance over the GPUs. The A6 APU claims to be stable and economical, although there aren’t many devices running on it yet.
Display. Having known AMD’s capability when it comes to display, we can expect that its devices will feature display qualities we might haven’t witnessed before. I don’t know if the “HD” in the bundled HD 7540D GPU with the processor really means “high-definition” or if it is just another code for the company to be able to sort and trace them. If it were, then there is a possibility we will be getting a full HD display, currently the concept device offers 11.6 inches screed featuring a resolution as high as 1366 x 768 pixels which is not really impressive.
Detachable Keyboard Dock. We are seeing yet another Transformer-like device with detachable keyboard. This means that every hardware is stuffed at the back of its screen. In fairness to the engineers of AMD who designed the keyboard, there is enough space for fingers even for people with bigger hands. Otherwise, it couldn’t function as a tablet. AMD said that the tablet will have upgraded performance and thermal capability when in docked mode.
Engadget and The Verge editors were able to lay their hands on the device and all of them said that it has a fairly good performance. However, AMD hasn’t really made any announcement yet and we are left to expect if there will be any announcements made soon. One of the downside of the design, according to The Verge writer is that the outside coating is just too glossy leaving touch traces or fingerprints anywhere on its body. But nevertheless, the device is set to be released this year.
