During the CommunicAsia 2011 show in Singapore, Sony Ericsson unveiled 3 new moble phones: Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, Xperia Active and txt. Xperia Ray was previously under the code name Urushi, which – let’s be honest – didn’t sound as cool as its new name. So what’s the deal with these new smartphones? Is Sony Ericsson offering us something special or not so much?
When it comes to the Xperia Ray, we are dealing with a slim smartphone with a thickness of 9.4 mm and weighing 100 grams. The display is provided by a 3.3 inch BRAVIA screen running at a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. The camera of Sony’s new mobile phone is a plus and certainly one of the phone’s main strengths. It’s an 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, Exmor R sensor and capable of 720p video capture. Other specs include 300 MB internal memory with the possibility of adding a microSD slot (up to 32 GB) and Dual band / tri band 3G/HSPA, quad band GSM / GPRS / EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS connectivity. The phone will hit the market in the following colors: black, gold, white and pink.
The Xperia Active is a mobile phone for sports users as it is water and dust resistant. The Android smartphone comes with the following features: a Snapdragon clocked at 1GHz, a 3 inch Reality Display at a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, a 5 megapixels camera boasting LED flash and 720p video capture, 320 MB internal and Wi-Fi N, DLNA, quad band GSM, triband HSPA, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity. Other features include FM radio with RDS and a digital compass.
The Xperia txt comes with a non-touch screen display of 2.6 inches, a full physical QWERTY keyboard, a shortcut button for instant SMS and a Friends application, which displays status updates in social services for up to five friends.
All three mobile phones will be released in Q3. The pricing of all 3 sets is unknown yet.
