LG chose well to select a relatively large 2.2 inch display on a pure voice and messaging phone. The display supports 262K colors on a 172×220 pixel display, though not a better choice of resolution and color depth, it is reasonable and makes reading the display easy. The interface is customizable, the font sizes and style, and the dial font can be changed. The clock format, calendar, menu style and display back light timer are also adjustable. The Sable sports a slim narrow navigation and control array of buttons below the display and above the QWERTY keyboard. The keys are well sized and easily pressed without serious errors. The main QWERTY keyboard is a bit small however after a bit of use it becomes easy to use. The LG Sable address book can store up to 1000 contacts and each contact can have up to 7 phone numbers, two email addresses and a memo field; the contacts can also be assigned pictures and organize them in caller groups. Usually LG stuck to the slider keyboard or flip type phones when shipping messenger phones; however this QWERTY keyboard layout is a fresh start. The LG Saber offers a threaded view of messaged which keeps your conversations organized.Features
The phone also offers standard features like speaker phone, vibration mode, a decent calendar, world clock and calculator. There is also voice command support, Bluetooth for pairing with other devices, voice recorder and a basic web browser. The VGA camera application allows taking pictures and videos at a number of resolutions, the application also offers simple controls for color effects, white balance, night mode, frames, multi-shot, image brightness and quality. The phone comes preloaded with Pac Man, City ID and access to U.S. Cellular ring tone store, the Tone Room Deluxe. Additional applications are available through the Easy-edge online shop.
The LG Saber GT-950 (is not to be mixed with the LG GT950 Arena). This is a basic CDMA phone, with a functional screen a full QWERTY keyboard and navigation and control keys. The build is lightweight without giving an impression of being fragile. There is no internet related application feature support like emails and instant messaging. The VGA offers low quality images. The voice quality is not the best around at this price level. For a basic phone with not a lot of processing going on, the phone sports a humble 3 hours of talk time; perhaps LG could have done better service to the phone by introducing a slightly larger battery. The LG Saber is a reasonable entry level super budget phone for those who are in the market for only messaging and text.Verdict
At an unreal low price of $9.99 this absolute entry level messenger phone is available with U.S. Cellular. The price alone should have you aware that the phone will offer nothing but the most basic features that are needed for communications.Price
