Samsung Galaxy Ace DUOS Dual SIM GSM Android Smartphone Revealed

Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos with dual SIM and GSM functionality is never new to us considering Samsung released a smartphone in February in India with the same name and was offered for INR 13,490. So, what’s the difference between these two? The previous release came with Dual SIM CDMA and GSM support while the one which was recently announced comes with GSM support for both SIM cards. There could be other minor differences which one cannot notice without going into minute details of every hardware. This isn’t the first time manufacturers released follow-up models for some of their smartphones released in India. Take for example BlackBerry Curve 9230 which was released for Curve 9220 for the same reason as Samsung Galaxy Ace DUOS Dual SIM GSM model. But let’s try to look into the specs of this newly-launched Samsung device and see what it has to offer for us.
Galaxy Ace DUOS
Processor. Samsung Galaxy Ace DUOS Dual SIM GSM sports an 832 MHz processor putting it in line with other entry-level smart phones. The company typically puts in at least 800 MHz CPUs in its budget-friendly smart phones making it ahead of the competition in the market than those manufacturers that put 600 MHz processors in their devices. Basically, this is just ahead of Samsung Galaxy Y by just mere 32 MHz and that’s not really a substantial lead. However, basing on the reputation of Samsung’s budget-friendly devices, there is a greater possibility that this one with perform better in the Indian market.
RAM & Storage. Samsung gave this device a generous 512 MB of RAM. While it is not really necessary to put in such amount of RAM, at least it is better than to have 256 MB. As far as RAM is concerned, you couldn’t really ask for more when it comes to this device. This handset gets just 3GB of internal storage which is not really not impressive. It could have been better if Samsung made it at least 4 GB and way better if it has given this device 8 GB. Nonetheless, there is a reason to be thankful for because it has a microSD slot which supports up to 32 GB of storage.
Display & Camera. This smart phone has the same size as iPhone 4S screen. The 3.5 inches display features 320 x 480 pixels resolution with a TFT touch screen technology. No, it doesn’t come with Samsung’s AMOLED technology and it is understandable considering it is a budget-friendly device. But at least it has a 5-megapixel camera featuring auto-focus and other features of a typical camera for a smart phone. While it only has 1,300 mAh battery, it could last up to 5 hours of straight talk time considering the specs are not really a power-hog.
OS. If there’s one thing you might not like about this device, that would be operating system. It will operate on an almost dated Android 2.3 Gingerbread instead of Ice Cream Sandwich. We know that having 832 MHz processor is a bit low to run ICS, but we’ve seen other devices with the same specs running on the latest Android version. Why can’t Samsung grant the wish of budget-friendly smartphone buyers to get ICS upon purchase?
I might just be speculating here but this phone could be considered as a filler. While people are waiting for the release of Samsung’s newest flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S3, it needs to do something to continue the flow of revenue knowing other manufacturers are also releasing new budget-friendly devices almost every week. Samsung couldn’t just afford to be left behind in the entry-level market and this handset may just serve the purpose well.
